Tiered Registration - What is it?
The ISWS Registry is a two-tiered process. The First Level of Registration is automatic for all puppies registered by the owner of the dam at the time of whelping; the breeder designated them as having "Limited Status". All puppies are on limited registration until their breeder actively and intentionally moves them to the second level of registration or breeding level. The AKC also has tiered registration, which is relatively new, and something that we old-timers fought for, for many, many years. In AKC it is only slightly different in that the puppies are all registered and the breeder can check a box to make it limited. Many breeders sell all puppies with a limited registration because it is convenient to sell them at a relatively young age - a conscientious breeder cannot really determine if a puppy will be show (or breeding) quality.
How do I register my Silken Windhound with the ISWS?
You will need to contact the Registrar of the ISWS to discuss your new puppy.
When you purchase a Silken puppy, you can choose the pup's name unless it has already been registered. Usually, the breeder will give you general guidelines to follow if they have any preference on naming style and be sure to include their kennel name in the name out of courtesy. Being able to put our kennel name on a dog we breed is one of the "perks" of breeding. It shows with pride what we breed in our kennels, and your puppy will always be an ambassador for his/her breeder.
How do I become a member of the ISWS?
You can download the Membership form from this site and fill it out. You will also need to have a current member sponsor your membership application.
Where can I find someone to sponsor my membership?
You can search the owner list for those people in your area that have Silkens, go out, and meet them. If they are members of the ISWS, you can ask them to sponsor your membership.
Joining the Silken Windhounds Email List
You can find the email list at www.egroups.com and search for "windhounds". They can either add you themselves or will invite you so that you can join up and listen in to the minds of the people involved in the breed.
